In New Orleans, Anthony Figaro is an multi-talented artist that has done everything from working on city maps to working for Topps trading cards with Lucasfilm, Upperdeck and Marvel. When he's not drawing or writing his next project he wears the hat of husband and father. “ of all the things I had a hand in creating, my children are my true legacy”.
Figaro has been a comic book artist for over 15 years, but his artistic imaginations date back even further, to when he was a child, watching 80's cartoons, “ They had a Big influence on me. I always liked the moral messages mixed in to the stories”. He finds a similarity between those Saturday morning cartoons, the comic books he reads and the folklore of cultures past. "These are our Hercules stories. These are our Jason and the Argonauts. This is our Odyssey," says Figaro. "As a kid you would read these comics and these characters represented higher goals, higher values. They showed you what could be, what was best about man."
By this definition, Anthony Figaro is among the few in life who have a profession, that essentially is being the divine creator of a modern day mythology with all its heroes and villains. With the brush strokes of his pen he draws hope into the minds of the men, women and children who follow his works.
These days, Figaro is very busy trying to bring his newest project to life. “ It’s time for New Orleans to step out of the shadows and show ‘em how it’s done!”
With the mystique of a northern Caribbean culture, above-ground cemeteries, Jazz music and the tradItion of Fat Tuesday, New Orleans is one of the most unique cities in the world. For Figaro, his beloved New Orleans is an ideal setting for villains, conflict and redemption. As such, he has crafted a story which would make the creators of those 80’s cartoons proud in a comic book entitled "GODS HAND." "GODS HAND," is a collection of characters from New Orleans' past brought into the present. The immortal Jean Lafitte and Madame Marie Laveau among others, form a team of supernatural misfits to combat the evils of an ancient entity threatening to cover the world in darkness all unfolding on the streets of the Big Easy.
I Love to create worlds and characters that capture the imagination and pull people into the world of limitless possibilities. By using the unique tools of comic book medium to bring together a visual spectacle that returns us to a much more simpler, peaceful time. Something that can restore our faith in the world and also each other. I want to create works that remind us that we are all flawed but that we can dig deeper and push through our limitations to be our best selves even in spite of our own moral failings. Comics is the best medium to remind people what’s best about mankind, that there are a great many things that we can do together we cannot do alone I strive to create worlds and characters that capture the imagination of the reader to develop a uinque relationship that is both entertaining and inspirational. I do this by Using comicbook illustrations and the art of visual storytelling.
